2012 Youth Power Energy Camp
Contest
Heads up, Texoma 8th Graders!
You could win
a trip to Youth Power Energy Camp next summer!
Each year,
SWRE joins the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives to sponsor
the Youth Power Energy Camp near Red Rock Canyon, located east of
Hinton, Oklahoma. The camp, slated for late May (beginning the day
after Memorial Day, when most schools have been dismissed for the
summer), is designed to help students develop leadership skills while
having lots of fun!
By forming
their own cooperative business, camp participants will learn about
leadership and business while interacting with other 8th graders from
across the state. Campers will also have the opportunity to learn about
generating and distributing electricity by touring the electric
generation facilities at Western Farmers Electric Cooperative in
Anadarko and the offices of Caddo Electric Cooperative in Binger.
Linemen will put on safety demonstrations and students will even get a
chance to try their hand at riding bucket trucks and climbing poles!
And that's
not all! Campers will start the summer out right by making new friends
and taking part in a variety of activities including volleyball,
swimming, ping pong, hiking, and a special “surprise”
outing.
