Youth Tour students share their experience, encourage 11thgraders to apply

2018 Youth Tour winners, Deanna Duensing of Electra and Timothy Jacobson of Snyder, spoke about their recent trip to Washington D.C. at the SWRE annual meeting last month.

Both students said the trip was life-changing and unforgettable.  Deanna said, “My favorite part of the trip was spending an entire afternoon on Capitol Hill, visiting with legislators and senators and learning about their jobs.”

Timothy enjoyed the trip as well, stating, “Youth Tour opened up my mind and helped me understand the government more.”

Both Timothy and Deanna encourage incoming 11thgrade students to apply for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

High school juniors who live or attend school in the SWRE service area are encouraged to enter the Youth Tour Essay Contest. Top prize for one Oklahoma student and one Texas student will be an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. this summer. Deadline for the 11th grade SWRE Youth Tour Contest essay is Saturday, December 1, 2018.

Complete contest information and entry materials have been sent to most 8th and 11th grade English teachers at schools throughout the SWRE service territory in Oklahoma and Texas. Entry forms and guidelines can be found on the SWRE website:
