How to create positive change with Operation Round Up
I’m sure you would agree with me that generosity is a veracious characteristic trait we should all pursue. Most Christians stand by the principle that “you can’t out give God” and as a cooperative member, it is important to remember the charitable mindset that founded our industry.
Perhaps that is why I am so passionate about our new program, Operation Round Up. Operation Round Up is a program designed to help organizations and individuals in need through the efforts of the communities that surround them.
In the very near future, you will be able to help charitable organizations in your own community simply by rounding up your electric bill each month. The small change that accumulates from our member’s donations will then be combined to create a big change in the communities and organizations within our service territory.
The great thing about Operation Round Up is that ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the change collected will go straight back into our local area. I can’t name one other charitable organization where 100% of all funds raised, go directly towards the designated needs of approved grant applicants. Your small change will be donated directly back into the SWRE community through charitable grants.
A great example is our cooperative neighbor to the east, Cotton Electric Cooperative. After 13 years of donations, CEC has just reached the million-dollar mark of donating back to their community through Operation Round Up. These funds have gone to help organizations such as Boy Scout Troops, humane societies, literary councils and volunteer fire departments across their entire service area. I would like to congratulate our friends at Cotton Electric and its generous members for reaching such a notable milestone. This is the kind of change we wish to create right here in southwest Oklahoma and north Texas.
Currently, our employee group is working hard to nail down the ins and outs of this program so that all of our members will soon be able to experience the joy of giving to those in need. Hundreds of cooperatives across the nation are already using this program as a way of improving the quality of life for their communities. This is our dream too.
Over the next few months we will be communicating our efforts for Operation Round-Up. Be sure and follow us on Facebook for up-to-date information on our progress.
